According to a press release shared with Cointelegraph, the toolkit enables developers to create decentralized applications (DApps) and protocols that offer new user experiences.

The MetaMask toolkit will be available on any Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) chain supported by a user operation bundler, including Arbitrum, Avalanche, Base, Linea, Optimism and Polygon.

Speaking with Cointelegraph, Dan Finlay, co-founder of MetaMask, explained that despite this first version being Ethereum only, there are parts he thinks “can very easily be made chain agnostic.”

According to a study by Consensys involving 15,000 participants between the ages of 18 and 65, many find crypto overly complex and challenging.“Only 8% of respondents consider themselves to be very familiar with the concept of Web3, which highlights a disconnect between public perceptions of Web3 and its potential.”

The toolkit aims to remedy this disconnect between public perception of Web3 and its potential by eliminating repetitive user actions and reducing the need for direct interactions with Web3 infrastructure.

Speaking about permission and enforcement systems, Finlay told Cointelegraph that the toolkit allows users “to write custom policies.” “You can invite a person to an experience — to an app — and give them an allowance, and the enforcement system is totally open-ended.”

The MetaMask Delegation Toolkit enables instant user onboarding without needing extensions or application downloads and removes the need for seed phrase management.

According to the official press release, the toolkit will “eliminate user friction completely,” removing pop-ups and constant confirmations for smoother interactions.

It will also allow for better management of gas fees, allowing for “gasless transactions or postponed or reassigned gas costs.”

Finlay discussed the finer details, explaining that when a user connects to a site, it says, “I want to do this; this is what I need.”“[With the toolkit], users can decide exactly under what conditions they would allow that to be done, and now you don’t need confirmations anymore [...] you can now have uninterrupted flows within the website.”

On July 3, Consensys announced its acquisition of Wallet Guard, a security tool built to protect digital assets and data from fraud, scams and theft.

The acquisition aims to improve user protection in the Web3 space by integrating Wallet Guard’s security features into MetaMask.

Patrick Berarducci, Consensys’ MetaMask and Infura Business Group lead, told Cointelegraph that Wallet Guard integration would protect users from threats like “malicious DApps and scams.”
